Meet the OpenIssue Partners

Thomas Groden
Thomas Groden has been involved in technology consulting since 1991 in both for profit and nonprofit sectors. His work includes management consulting in the semiconductor and pharmaceuticals industries along with database and software systems design. He has been an active volunteer with Taproot Foundation, CompuMentor and many other San Francisco Bay Area nonprofit organizations.

Michelle Murrain
Michelle Murrain, Ph.D. has more than 10 years of experience in web application development using open source tools. She is a nationally recognized leader in the nonprofit technology field, and is on the board of NTEN and Aspiration. She blogs on open source and nonprofit technology at Zen and the Art of Nonprofit Technology.

Meet Some of the OpenIssue Team

Johanna Bates - Drupal Developer and Themer
Johanna Bates has a B.A. in Religious Studies from Brown University. She became an accidental techie in 1999 and has been working in non-profit technology ever since. Formerly a web technologist at the WGBH Educational Foundation in Boston, she spent eight years at Community Partners, a Massachusetts health care reform organization, eventually becoming their Technology and Strategy Director. Now an independent consultant, Johanna works with organizations and foundations to help them make smart, strategic decisions about Internet tools. She has been an active member of NTEN for seven years and has served for the last two years on the NTC agenda steering committee. She lives in western Massachusetts with her partner and child.

Thong Bui - Sr. Database and Software Engineer
Thong brings more than 15 years of deep database expertise to our team and is our lead database engineer. Thong uses the following technologies to help make sense of data: Java/J2EE, Oracle, XML, SQL/PLSQL, C, HTML, Perl, OraPerl, SQLPlus. EJB, JDBC, Apache’s Xerces, Resin, Eclipse, Visual Cafe, NetBeans, WebLogic, Apache, ERwin, Purify, Ant, CVS, Visio, Clearcase, Teradata DB, DB2.


Ron Coscia - Database Developer and Salesforce Engineer
Ron Coscia has over 30 years of experience in the computer software industry as a programmer, systems analyst, project leader and, most recently, as an independent consultant. He has worked for such notable companies as Computer Usage Co., and Computer Sciences Corp. Since 1992, his focus has been on the non-profit community, helping organizations convert outdated fundraising software to more modern and efficient systems, as well as assisting with general data import/export issues.


JoAnn Culbertson - Salesforce Engineer
JoAnn brings 20 years of experience in high-tech with a deep understanding of fundraising and sales environments. Her technology skills centralize on Salesforce and Convio Common Ground and brings a broad range of business intelligence to this technical space.


Steven Nguyen - Designer and Drupal Themer
Steven Nguyen has more than 15 years experience in web design and art direction working with many of the brightest companies in Silicon Valley. His work includes UI and prototype design as well as development of many Internet based applications.


Giorgio Porro - Salesforce Engineer
Giorgio Porro brings 13 years of international experience in business analysis and client service management. His focus is on requirements gathering, configuration and data management in SaaS implementations. He has been an active volunteer with Taproot Foundation, United Way, and the IRS's VITA program.
